and I were talking about featured folder submissions and how we think we need to bring up some guidelines. We try to be as selective as we can when it comes to the featured folder, because that's what it is, a feature folder.If your piece got declined it is because it received three "no" votes. Various moderators vote on the submissions so this means we all have various reasons as to why it specifically got declined, but you may always ask for the specific reason on the submission process! ALSO! If you go to ask, make sure you are commenting on the submission process page (so we can see the deviation in question) and not our front page! It makes it a lot easier and faster for everyone!
Some of our basic reasons to decline may be as follows:
*PLEASE NOTE* These are not the only three reasons. If your deviation surpasses these most-common reasons, it is still up to the moderators discretion to vote yes or no. We all have varying tastes and standards so even though your work may be better than the minimum standard, that does not mean it will be accepted. We only want the best of the best in featured!
> It is a WIP. We do not accept WIPS to the featured folder. Finish it first, the group will still be here to submit too
> It is a journal. If it is a literary piece, submit it as a literature deviation and submit that.
> It is low quality. Now, this one is tricky because we all have differing variations of what low/high quality is, but we're mainly talking about things such as: simple scribbles in dA muro/MS Paint, cell phone photos, and Facebook pictures/snapshots, and works that look unfinished.
We understand that that may be all an artist can do right now, and that's ok! Everyone starts somewhere and we get that, but please understand that that doesn't guarantee it will be accepted into the featured folder. Same with being a self taught artist, once in a while we get comments like "But I am self taught!", we know you are because it's what this group is about, but that doesn't guarantee you a spot in the featured folder. Also please understand that begging or saying things like "but I personally really really liked this one! It should be accepted!" Will not get it accepted.
So, just think about the above reasons, and if you think any of that does not apply to your deviation, then go ahead and submit it! We love to see your work!
Also, since there are so many submissions to the featured folder, we do not automatically give reasons for decline unless you ask for them; and even then, it is up to the moderators who vote whether they want to tell you why or not. Some do, some don't (some are just busy and might not see your comment.) DO NOT EXPECT AN AUTOMATIC REASON WHY.
Lastly, we want to stress that we are not trying to discourage or offend anyone, rather we just want you to be a little selective in what you submit to the featured folder and encourage you to push yourselves to create something really awesome. Don't take it personally if you get declined, remember, you may always resubmit your work to a folder that auto-accepts! Being rude and huffy, sending us comments like "WHY was MY work declined???" or "WELL??? ARNT YOU GOING TO EXPLAIN???? UGH." Just makes you look like an asshole, and not any more closer to getting into the folder.
